Sheikh Saqr Abdul Qader al-Shuwaitir is arrested in Yemen

The following is a translation from Arabic. 10/4/2007 Press Statement Political security in the Ab province Sheikh Saqr Abdul Qader al-Shuwaitir is arrested On Saturday 7th April, 2007 C.E security officials in civilian attires raided the al-Nahdhah School in the province of Ab and detained Mr. Saqr Abdul Qader Abdullah al-Shuwaitir, aged 35, married and father of 4 children, who is a teacher in the same school. He has been arrested without a warrant from either a court or the provincial authorities. His only ‘crime’ is that he distributed leaflets criticising the treacherous Riyadh Conference where the traitors of this Ummah had gathered in Riyadh on 28th & 29th March, 2007. The leaflet was titled “America holds the Arab Summit in Riyadh! It aims to deal a fatal blow to the issues of the Muslims especially the Palestinian issue.” wherein it called upon the Muslims: “Oh Muslims America had succeeded in the Beirut Summit in 2002 under the name of the Arab Peace Initiative by making

The Ethical Dilemma concerning Stem Cell Research

Stem cell research promises to revolutionise medical treatment and has the potential to yield cures that have long eluded scientists and doctors. Whilst researchers seek to push the frontiers of its ground-breaking potential, a debate over the ethics of experimenting with human embryos may yet threaten to stifle its future. Dr Saqib Latif discusses an Islamic approach to a debate that has deeply divided secular societies. Introduction Dr Clarke is a seventy three year old retired chemical engineer. For a PhD scientist with a distinguished career, he can barely recognise his wife nor remember her name and his comprehension of numbers has deteriorated such that he cannot count three consecutive figures backward. There are times when he wakes at night screaming and is unable to go back to sleep despite soothing gestures from Mrs Clarke. A week ago, she woke in the middle of the night to find him wandering in the street outside. Alzheimer's dementia makes up almost half of all cases of

Tawakkul (Reliance upon Allah) - In depth

The following is a translation from Arabic. As regards the issue of putting trust on (at-tawakkul ‘ala) Allah (swt), the first Muslims understood that very well, and they put their full trust on Allah (swt). Therefore, they performed the great tasks, and plunged themselves in the severest difficulties. This is different to the Muslims who came after them, particularly when the material dominated the souls, and the Muslims were afflicted with the short vision and weak understanding. So, they became alienated from the true tawakkul, which became futile words that has no reality in their life and nor in their mind. What encouraged on that is that the thought of the scholars focused on explaining the tawakkul as being taking the means. So, once the word of tawakkul was mentioned it immediately meant the noble hadeeth: ‘tie it and make tawakkul’ (narrated by at-Tirmidhi). Thus, the hadeeth started to be used for weakening the meaning of tawakkul in the souls, and not for refuting what might

The Moulding of peoples together into one Ummah

The following is transcript of a useful talk given by a brother in 1999. Out of about 6 billion people inhabiting the Earth around 1.6 billion of these people are Muslims mostly concentrated in the Middleast, from the west to east Africa, Indian sub-continent, southern states of the former soviet union stretching from the black sea to the west of China. These people are of different ethnic, lingual and race backgrounds. Despite all of these factors they hold one thing in common the creed of Islam. Islam the deen which was described by one of the western writers as the thunder coming out of Arabia, has managed to bring many different nations and people under its fold. From having a few tribes in the heart of Arabia who counted a few thousands to today’s 1.6 billion. This is achievement was done under the Islamic state which the Prophet (PBUH) established in Madina. Today questions are asked regarding the ability of Islam to mould different people of different backgrounds together. How c

The Use of Islamic Policies to Bring Change to the Muslim World

The following is the transcript of a useful talk given in 1999. May all the praise be to Allah (swt) the master of the universe. He that guided us to Islam, this great deen. The deen for all of mankind, but most of mankind know not. The only deen for mankind that can elevate us from the depths of darkness to unity and strength, to protect the weak and guide the lost. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and Muhammad (saw) is the last messenger of Allah (swt). Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatulahi wa barakatuhu The Muslim ummah is facing a crisis of unprecedented proportions. On all fronts: economic, political, military, even our social system is under attack. There are several reasons for this situation, some of which are discussed today, the decline of the ummah, its abandonment of Islam in all but a few personal rituals, and the occupation of our lands by the kuffar both militarily and intellectually figure high on anyones list of reasons for our plight. I would like today to focu

Q&A: Being part of a group?

Question: Someone said that the daleel used by those who call for the re-establishment of the Khilafah is incorrect. More precisely, he was referring to the establishment of political parties based on Surah Al-Imran (ayaah 103). He told me that in Tafsir Qurtubi, Tabari and ibn Kathir it is said that the people who make up this party can only be mujtahid (or ulema, I dont remember exactly which one) and mujahid and no one else. Any comment? Answer: With regards to the verse, ‘And let there arise out of you a group inviting to all that is good (Islam), enjoining the Good (ma’roof) and forbidding the Evil (munkar). And it is they who are successful’. [TMQ 3:104] We should understand that this verse is related to the obligation of having at least one group from amongst the Ummah and the verse defines the general objective of that group i.e. to call to the Khair, enjoin the Ma’roof and forbid the Munkar. This is not the only evidence for groups, firstly we must understand the group is not Q
