Based on the request of one of our readers for an article explaining this issue, the following is an extract from the book 'The Ark of Salvation' by Abdul-Kareem Hassan and Murad el-Adnany: Disagreement among the scholars of Islam has centred on whether action is part of Imaan or something based on Imaan. The recent incident in the U.S. involving Henry Louis Gates Jr. highlights the racial and ethnic tensions that still exist in Western societies.
