Q&A: Exchanging gold for gold?

The following is a translation from an Arabic Q&A.  Question: The following came in the Book of the Economic System , p. 268, the sixth line: "If a man bought a true dinar by two forged dinars it is not permissible" It also came in p. 289, line 12 in the same book ‘and the exchange rate between the two States is then the ratio between the weight of the pure gold in the currency of the first State and the weight of the pure gold in the currency of the second State " I understood from the text mentioned in the first place and the subsequent clarification that it is not allowed to exchange the forged two dinars by a true dinar though the pure gold contained in the two forged dinars might be equal to the weight of pure gold in the true dinar. Therefore, the understanding I got is that when you exchange the gold of 24 carats with gold of 21 carats, for example exchange will not be except by weight for weight despite the different proportion of pure gold in

Intellectual attack against Islam

The following is an article written by a brother in America in February 1997, it has many points that are still applicable today.  Allah (swt) created this life and subjected it to a specific system from which it cannot deviate. He (swt) said: "And the system of Allah will not be altered."  [TMQ Al-Ahzab:62] "And the system of Allah will not be changed."  [TMQ Al-Israa':77] Part of this system is the struggle between the Truth (Al-Haqq) and Falsehood (Al-Batil). Never will the Haqq tolerate the Batil, nor will the Batil ever accept the Haqq. The struggle is continuous and ever-lasting and may take various forms, ranging from intellectual to physical or political. A quick look at the Seerah of Prophet Muhammad (saaw) shows that he struggled against the Batil. In Makkah, he (saaw) was invalidating their beliefs and ridiculing their value system and culture with no fear or compromise. In fact, all the prophets and messengers carried this mental

Address by Shihadah Arar in front of the State Security Court in Zarqa, Jordan

The following is a translation from Arabic.  Address presented by Shihadah Arar in front of the State Security Court in Zarqa, Jordan, on the 7th of February, 1968. Respected judge, the case for which I am being tried in front of you, is of political consequence. It is not a criminal case. Rather, it involves the destiny of this country. It is not a case of political criticism or of simply exposing an ordinary plan. In addition to my natural right of defending myself, it becomes mandatory upon me to explain to the court the reality of this vital case and its catastrophic consequences, as well as the awaiting catastrophes and calamities, in addition to the present and future situation which includes a complete destruction of the country and its people. Therefore, I demand from the court to grant me the opportunity to address the court on behalf of myself. In fact, I insist on it and promise the court that my address will be concise. However, if I am denied of this right then

Understanding 'Dar al-Kufr' and 'Dar al-Islam'

It is unfortunate that the Islamic concepts, definitions and terminologies which were well known by Muslims and codified by Islamic scholarship for centuries have in more recent times become vague, distorted or in some cases totally absent. One such issue is the subject of Dar al-Kufr (land of disbelief) and Dar al-Islam (land of Islam). Understanding the distinction between the two is vital when it comes to evaluating present regimes in the Muslim world and in the aftermath of the Arab spring is essential in order to determine what changes to a constitution and state are necessary to make it more than just Islamic in name. Sadly, some attempt to classify countries as Islamic or not utilising criterion other than those established by the Shariah evidences. So Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's condemnation of Israel and overt stance against America lead some to argue that Iran has been Dar al-Islam, a legitimate Islamic state since the Iranian revolution by Ayatollah Khomeni in 1979.
