Tafseer Al-Baqara: 60-61 | Sheikh 'Ata Abu Al-Rashtah

Extract from the book 'At-Tayseer Fee Usool At-Tafseer' written by the Ameer of Hizb ut Tahrir, Sheikh Ata Ibn Khalil Abu Al-Rashtah. (60) (60) And when Musa was looking for water for his people, We said, ‘Strike the rock with your staff.’ Then twelve fountains gushed out from it and all the people knew their drinking place. ‘Eat and drink of Allah's provision and do not go about the earth corrupting it.’ Allah (سبحانه) reminds Bani Israeel of the favours that he blessed them with, as if to say “Remember when Musa prayed for rain…” Here, Allah (سبحانه) explains that the people of Musa (عليه السلام) became thirsty, so he prayed to Allah for them to quench their thirst, so it was revealed to him by Allah (سبحانه) to

Tafseer Surah Al-Baqarah: Verses 104-105

From the Book, Introduction to the Tafseer of the Quran, by the Ameer of Hizb ut-Tahrir, the eminent jurist and statesman, Sheikh Ata Bin Khalil Abu Al-Rashtah: يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لاَ تَقُولُوا رَاعِنَا وَقُولُوا انظُرْنَا وَاسْمَعُوا وَلِلْكَافِرِينَ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ مَا يَوَدُّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ وَلاَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ أَنْ يُنَزَّلَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِنْ خَيْرٍ مِنْ رَبِّكُمْ وَاللَّهُ يَخْتَصُّ بِرَحْمَتِهِ مَنْ يَشَاءُ وَاللَّهُ ذُو الْفَضْلِ الْعَظِيمِ "O you who believe! Say not (to the Messenger) Ra'ina رَاعِنَا an insult in Hebrew which in Arabic means hear us) but say Unzurna (انظُرْنَا) (make us understand) and hear. And for the disbelievers there is a painful torment. Neither those who disbelieve among the People of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) nor Al-Mushrikeen (the idolaters) like that there should be sent down unto you any good from your Lord. But Allah chooses for His mercy whom He wills. And Allah is the Owner of great bou

Tafseer Al-Baqara: 6-7 | Sheikh 'Ata Abu Al-Rashtah

Extract from the book 'At-Tayseer Fee Usool At-Tafseer' written by the Ameer of Hizb ut Tahrir, Sheikh Ata Ibn Khalil Abu Al-Rashtah. 7 . 6. “Verily, those who disbelieve, it is the same to them whether you warn them or do not warn them, they will not believe. 7. Allah has set a seal on their hearts and on their hearings, and on their eyes there is a covering. Theirs will be a great torment.” After Allah had explained in the previous verses that the book is from Allah in truth and that there is no doubt in it, and after He (سبحانه) explained the status of those who are guided by it and have taqwa, that they are from the successful ones. Then He (سبحانه) explained in these two verses the situation of those who reject; that warning does not benefit them, as Allah has sealed

Q&A: Use of metaphors in Qur'an

Question: Allah سبحانه وتعالى says: قَالَ مَنْ يُحْيِ الْعِظَامَ وَهِيَ رَمِيمٌ "Who will give life to bones while they are disintegrated?" (YaSin, 36:78) Is the phrase يُحْيِ الْعِظَامَ "give life to bones" in the above verse a metaphor where a part is mentioned to represent the whole? May Allah reward you goodness, and may He preserve you support and treasure for the great Muslim Ummah. May He سبحانه وتعالى grant you victory. From: A. Hamza Answer: We do not rely on metaphor unless applying the reality is impossible, for example: يَجْعَلُونَ أَصَابِعَهُمْ فِي آذَانِهِمْ مِنَ الصَّوَاعِقِ حَذَرَ الْمَوْتِ "They put their fingers in their ears against the thunderclaps in dread of death" أصابعهم   "their fingers"  is a metaphor for the ends of the fingers because the whole finger in reality cannot be put in to the ears. Only the ends of the fingers can be put in the ears. Another example is: وَدَخَلَ مَعَهُ السِّج

Jihad – “And Fighting has been Prescribed for You” – the Tafsir by Shaykh Ata Ibn Khalil

“And Jihad has been made obligatory for you…” Shaykh `Ata’:  Tafsir  of the Noble Verse in  Surat  al-Baqarah *** Allah (swt) states in the noble Qur’an: { And Jihad has been prescribed for you while it is hateful to you; perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you and perhaps you lose something and it is bad for you; Allah knows and you do not …[Q. 2:216]}. The noble shaykh `Ata Ibn Khalil (Allah preserve him) comments: “(a) […] { jihad has been prescribed for you } and this is a command from Allah – glorified is He! – to the Muslims to fight which is a request ( talab ) to fight. (b) Allah then mentioned { while [1]   you hate it } which is a contextual indication ( qarina ) that the request is decisive ( talab jazim ) and hence an obligation ( fard ) because of the word “ kurh / كره ” which means ‘hardship’ ( mashaqqa ). [2]  A request that is connected to hardship is an indication that it is a decisive request [...] The meaning of the verse is: ‘Perhaps you hate th
