Musharraf's American Plan

"Musharraf’s visit to five Arab capitals and four Muslim countries cannot be divorced from America’s overall plan for Iraq and the broader Middle East--the heart of which is the settlement of the protracted Arab-Israeli conflict. It was no coincidence that Musharraf’s trip came after the publication of the Baker-Hamilton report and Bush’s State of the Union address." Over the years, General Musharraf has been given undue credit for plans which appear to be home-grown solutions to domestic and international problems that involve Pakistan and the Muslim ummah. But often enough these schemes turn out to be American initiatives designed to perpetuate US hegemony over Pakistan and the Muslim world. The present educational reforms, structural changes to the economy, the normalisation drive with India, the infamous Kashmir plan and peace-deals with the tribal agencies--to mention a few-- were all conceived in Washington and Musharraf was simply given the task of executing them. The disastarous declaration of Hamas & Fatah amounts to recognising the Jewish state

The following is a translation from arabic with some minor ammendments. بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم The Accord… it’s a disaster - The Declaration of Hamas and Fatah to abide by the decisions of the Arab summits, to honour the international resolutions and regional pacts amounts to recognising the Jews’ State! It was announced this night that Fatah and Hamas have reached an agreement wherein they have agreed in clear and no uncertain terms to abide by the resolutions of the Arab summits, honour all legal international accords signed by the Palestinian Liberation Organisation. During the negotiations Fatah was represented by Mahmoud Abbas, the head of the Palestinian Authority, while Hamas was represented by Khalid Misha’l the head of its Political Office and Ismaeel Hanieh, the Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority. All these accords and resolutions accept and recognize the existence of the Jews’ State. This is only a prelude to uncovering the proverbial fig-leaf. If the leaf remains i

Pakistan's Kashmir policy is a double-edged sword

"Indian politicians are extremely sensitive to the demands of the indigenous secessionist movements and do their utmost to avoid any word or deed that may lead to India’s implosion. It is within this context that the farther of the Congress Party, Nehru formulated his Kashmir doctrine i.e. Kashmir is an integral part of India. This doctrine has become the bedrock of India’s relations with Pakistan over Kashmir, and has influenced a plethora of Indian politicians." On February the 5th, the people of Pakistan and Kashmir will be commemorating Kashmir day. The annual remembrance is intended to demonstrate Pakistan’s solidarity with the plight of the Kashmiri people living under Indian rule. Whilst displays of unity are abound amongst the Pakistani people the same cannot be said for the Musharraf government. Ever since September 11, 2001 Pakistan has conceded much in the hope that India will eventually reciprocate— put an end to the sixty-year-old dispute and hasten the normalisa

The importance of thinking about death

The following is a translated article from Arabic that appeared in al-Waie Magazine. The rising of the sun reminds of Sakhr, I remember him at every sunset, If it were not for the number of those weeping around me, for their brothers, I surely would have killed myself, they do not cry for anyone as dear as my brother, but I console myself by weeping for him, for I have said farewell to the day we separated, father of Hassan, with it my pleasures and happiness, how my sorrows go out to him and my mother, for him to awake in his grave and then to rest at night? With these phrases and others like them, Al-Khansaa’ mourned the death of her brother, Sakhr, and cried for him until she lost her eye-sight, falling into anguish, disparity and wishing for death. This is how Al-Khansaa’ saw death and this is how she handled it. In the battle of Al-Qadisiyyah, in an honourable stance of life and death, Al-Khansaa’ stood with her four sons and said to them: “You became Muslim and did not apostatise
