The following is a letter to the editor that appeared in The Hindu national english newspaper in India:
Pakistan’s political future is being secretly fashioned by Washington. It is expected that Pervez Musharraf will soon appoint himself the civilian President and announce elections for PPP leader Benazir Bhutto to contest. Once again, the U.S. and the West will decide the destiny of one of our neighbours. It can only be seen as an unholy political marriage between a leader who presided over the most corrupt regime and a general who has betrayed the nation’s interests. The military dictator has been given a political lifeline. It exposes the West’s supremacist quest to export its ideology of ‘freedom and democracy.’
