Moon not seen - Ramadhan fasting begins Thursday

Assalam wa alaikum wa rahmatullah

The moon was not seen anywhere on Tuesday 11th September, 29th Sha'baan - so after completing 30 days of Sh'baan, the blessed month of Ramadhan will begin on Thursday 13th September 2007.

The fact that Tuesday was 29th Shabaan is a definitive fact as the birth of the Astronomical New Moon was on Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at 12:44 Universal Time (i.e., 8:44 am EDT, and 5:44 am PDT ). This is an established fact, the majority of the Muslim world was looking for the moon on Tuesday night apart from a few countries like the Indian sub-continent who for some strange reason go against the clear reality.

The Astronomical New Moon, or the invisible New Moon, is the moment when the moon is almost directly between the earth and the sun. At this moment the moon’s dark surface faces the earth. Therefore it is completely invisible even if it occurs in the middle of the night. The Astronomical New Moon occurs every 29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes, and 2.8 seconds. The date and time of this invisible New Moon is commonly found in almanacs, newspapers and calendars.

However your are right that the moon was seen in many places including USA, South Africa, Guyana, etc on Wednesday 12th September. Whether it was seen or not, Ramadhan would have begun as the Prophet (saw) mentioned to complete 30 days if the moon is not seen.
